RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN CHARACTERISTIC, HYPERTENSION AND OBESITY FACTORS WITH THE INCIDENCE OF DIABETES MELLITUS IN BANJARMASIN HOSPITAL

Abstract
Background: Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia caused by impaired insulin secretion, impaired insulin action or both. Risk factors that can cause diabetes mellitus are age, gender, nation and ethnicity, heredity, history of giving birth to babies with birth weights of more than 4000 grams, history of gestational diabetes, obesity, lack of physical activity, hypertension, stress, diet, diseases of the pancreas (pancreatitis, neoplasms, cystic fibrosis), and alcohol. Diabetes mellitus is a health problem both in the world, in Indonesia, and in the Internal Medicine Polyclinic at the Banjarmasin Hospital. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct research on the relationship between characteristic factors, hypertension and obesity with the incidence of diabetes mellitus. This study aims to determine the relationship between characteristic factors, hypertension and obesity with the incidence of diabetes mellitus in outpatients at the Internal Medicine Polyclinic, Banjarmasin Hospital. Research Methods: This type of research is explanatory research. This research was conducted at the Internal Medicine Polyclinic at the Banjarmasin Hospital using a survey method which was conducted by interviewing patients directly, and measuring blood pressure, weight, height, and laboratory tests using a cross sectional approach. The population of this study were all outpatients at the Internal Medicine Polyclinic at the Banjarmasin Hospital starting from October 2022. The sample size was 69 people. The sampling technique uses a quota sampling technique with the condition that they are willing to become respondents. Results: The results of the Chi Square test showed that the p value <0.05, which means there is a significant relationship between age and the incidence of diabetes mellitus, and the p value > 0.05, which means there is no significant relationship between gender and the incidence of diabetes mellitus. , there is no significant relationship between hypertension and the incidence of diabetes mellitus, and there is no significant relationship between obesity and the incidence of diabetes mellitus. Conclusion: there is a significant relationship between age and the incidence of diabetes mellitus, there is no significant relationship between gender and the incidence of diabetes mellitus, there is no significant relationship between hypertension and the incidence of diabetes mellitus, and there is no significant relationship between obesity and the incidence of diabetes mellitus
